The logo for my app came about with me approaching the work a bit differently than I normally do. I thought about what the logo would look like as an icon on the homescreen of an ipad before anything else and realised I wanted it to be really minimal in its expression because it has to work when being really small. It also had to reflect the app so what I did was to use a part of a scanned letter I did but cropped it so it’s only showing the edge of the paper and blackness of the photocopier but in a wavy way because I moved it around. And then I coloured it in pink and blue to go with the rest of the feel of the app, making it a bit Jessica Walsh inspired as well. The waves also link to the Thames and how London looks like from above, like a map. In this case, an extremely abstract map.

I decided to use this wavy feature for the type in the logo as well as it reflects the app so well. My posters all have that wavy, bendy thing going on really accentuating the movement I created when scanning the letters, so picking up on that was a good way to go.

Designing my logomark for the map of me, I played around a bit with shapes of buildings and mouths as I wanted to capture both conversation and the city but it didn’t really work out. It just gave the impression of buildings talking which I wasn’t really going for. I also didn’t want the mark to look too crowded, but use only a couple of shapes. After a lot of drawing I came up with the idea of two stylised mouths half open like in the middle of saying something.
Our brand is called “Neat!”, our product range includes pencils, tote bags, posters, notepads and our signature notebook; the Neatbook.
We had a bit of a slow start in terms of pin pointing our product range and coming up with a visual identity but when we finally did, I think our brand is strong and our product interesting. For me, Neat started coming together after deciding what our primary product would be and the colour palette we were going to use. I put together a mood board with everyone’s individual style in mind and the things we had discussed on our first meeting.
A couple of months ago I was commissioned to create the visual identity of the Nordic Music Therapy Congress that will take place in Stockholm 2018. The client wanted something colorful that brought together the two aspects of music therapy- the scientific and calculating with the emotional and soulful and the logo mark needed to feel Nordic as the congress is a collaboration between the Nordic countries.

After getting an understanding of what the client wanted, I put together a mood board of everything I connected the words Nordic, simple, shape, soul, light, constrained and music. Looking at that, I quite quickly decided on the colors blue with the contrast of pink as it reminded me of the mountains and a misty sunrise by the sea.
Recent discovery: creating a logo is hard. Especially if you get stuck on trying to be creative with your initials. LW will not co-operate.
One way to generate a personal logomark can be by taking a couple of things that you like or describe your strengths as a basis for your image. When designing my own mark, I used my love of colour combined with two of my strengths- focused and problem solving. I’ve never tried to come up with my own logomark before and this exercise did not come easy for me.
